For a couple of decades now, there has been this sorta battle weather to eat high protein diets or high carbohydrate diets. This introduced the Atkins diet, which restricted high carbohydrates foods like bread, and pasta.
To choose the better one between the two is an impossible task as both are essential components that our body needs to keep it functioning properly without fail and there are different nutrients that contain either or both of them so you can see the significance of them, thereby giving a rest to the battle. Some may prefer junk food over super greens and vice versa but both sides know that it is the latter that keeps the body going while the former destroys it slowly. So let’s take a look at Atkins diet for better understanding purposes and avoid any such scenario.
The Atkins diet is suppose to, when you eat less carbohydrates, helps the body produce less insulin and look to use fat as energy. This is suppose to help you lose weight more quickly. It restricts your carbohydrates intake from 300 grams to 15 to 40 grams a day. When you consume less than 40 grams a day your body reaches a process called ketosis. This is when your body uses fat for energy. It claims that it isn’t unusual to lose 5 lbs a week. That just sounds too good to be true, and it is. Your body is not meant to lose weight like that. Being on this diet for a long period of time has been known to cause some serious health risks like, osteoporosis, strains on the kidneys, may contribute to cancer, and nutritional deficiencies.
When you consume an all protein diet, you can produce a bad odor or bad breathe. This is from the ketosis. If you decide to do this diet, only stay on it for a couple weeks at a time. I had to do this sorta diet, when I competed in bodybuilding to drop body fat fast and it isn’t very healthy. I had a bad dizzy spell and would zone out a lot. It took a few months to recover from it.
Now we will go the opposite with Carbohydrates. They can be just as bad. Carbohydrates are our main source of energy, which are converted into glucose. The brain uses this for energy. A really high carbohydrate diet can cause health risk too like, heart disease, diabetes, pancreatic cancer, and breast cancer.
There are two types of carbohydrates. They are simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are quickly absorbed into the blood stream as glucose. It is quickly available for energy, but if it isn’t used up immediately it is stored as fat and can contribute obesity. Examples are cakes, pies, sweets, and syrup. Complex carbohydrates take longer to break down. They give you constant energy for a longer period of time. So, you should make sure your diet consist mainly of complex carbohydrates and not simple. Complex carbohydrates are good for a healthy digestive track.
So, in conclusion, with all this said, that a balanced diet of both the right amount of carbohydrates and proteins is a lot healthier choice. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix to losing weight the healthy way. Yes, there are food that help you to burn fat quicker, but it’s not going to be 5 lbs a week quick. If you want to lose weight the right way to keep it off, you should keep it at 1 to 2 lbs a week.
